FREEDOM

I'm smellin' it....I'm feelin' it....I'm readyin' for it....

Hey, did you guys know that dunkin donuts is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week? It's the most reliable food source in America. There's no condition like "except holidays" or "except on days where we're tired" or "except on days when the donuts don't taste that great". it just says open. so when the end of the world comes, are they going to be in violation of their promise? i fully anticipate dunkin donuts to still be cranking out the pastries while Jesus is descending from his cloud. they are open all the dunkin' time. That's a super dunkin' time. you could use "I was at dunkin donuts" as an alibi for anything, all the time, because they are open. it's not like if you told the cops you didn't do the crime cause you were at dunkin donuts and then they check, and they are all like i'm sorry, but your alibi doesn't check out because dunkin donuts is closed then. That would never happen. the cops would be like...well, i guess your alibi is good cause we know dunkin donuts was open. cause they are open all the dunkin' time. and i actually am a little amazed that i just brought up cops while talking about donuts, because i've always resisted the whole connection between the two and the huge stereotype that cops love donuts and are always eating donuts and are always parked in a donut parking lot (not that the parking lot is a donut, but the parking lot that belongs to the donut place..) because i figure it's a gross generalization. there's probably a whole slew of cops that really don't like donuts. and i'm sure there's a whole slew of cop cars that have never found themselves parked outside a donut joint. poor cops and poor cop cars who get the donut wrap. which reminds me that donuts actually go stale pretty easily. so how is it that they can be open 24 hours a day? do the donuts go stale? do they constantly throw them out and make new ones? how do they make any money doing that. and what a gamble it is....at 3am, someone comes in and they either have to eat a stale donut, wait for a brand new one to be made (but what service!!!) or they have to be told, um, we have no good donuts at the time. come back at 6am when the normal people want donuts. i think my obsession with dunkin donuts and their being open 24 hours a day is getting a little out of hand, but in my book, that's a pretty wonderful thing. especially since krispy kreme went belly up (what a great image that puts in my head!!!! belly up donuts. hehehe. like they are sprawled out on their backs with their arms and legs splayed out to the side, soaking up the rays. belly up donuts. hehehe.) locally, so i'm sure dunkin donuts is getting some great donut business. hooray for the dunkin donuts! oh, and just one more thing, BRILLIANT name!!! donuts....for dunkin'. like dunkin' them, like in coffee!! and how smart was it to use the dunkin' instead of dunking. how stupid does that sound "dunking donuts". that's just silly.

Here's to the greatness: Hip hip hooray!!!!

Oh, and here's to my caffeine high!!!!! Cheers! Tally ho good chap. Cheerio!

The Song of Deborah

So there's this woman in the Old Testament of the Bible who was the first and only woman judge appointed by God over Israel. We're studying her in a bible study on Mondays. What I'm learning and what I'm finding the most fascinating about Deborah is that she was a strong woman, respected by everyone, diligent in her work, a prophet, as strong as a warrior, a leader among all the people...and she did it all every day taking every direction from God. I'm sure she was up against some resistance from being a woman, but because of her reputation and because she was a woman who followed God, she was respected and listened to and was very successful. She said what God wanted her to say, did what God wanted her to do, followed the instructions of God, for God's glory and honor and not her own.

There's a lady in the group who finds Deborah appealing because of her strength as a woman. Some who admire her for her leadership skills. Some who are taken by her demeaner and attitude. I personally admire her intense focus on God to direct her life. That's the take-home lesson, kiddos. There's something powerful in there.

Humbled

I haven't had anything interesting to say in the last few weeks! What's wrong with me!! =) Hopefully something interesting will come up soon.

Perhaps I will tell you about the great God-thing that happened last weekend! Always good to share when He does something to blow your socks off. So back in May-June timeframe, I really felt the push to be praying for a couple of friends of mine. Didn't really know anything about anything they were doing, but I just felt this strong urge in my heart to pray for them. To pray hard. Like God saying, "These people need alot of prayer right now, so, Lisa, get started!" So I did. Probably not as much as I could have or should have, but I prayed. This need to pray for them continued through recently. Now last week I had the privilege of having a great extended conversation with one of them. About an hour and a half into our conversation, she spills about these really bad things that have been happening, and that in May was the worst of it. My heart sank and my jaw nearly hit the floor. It's heartbreaking any time you are aware of a really deep struggle in anyone's life that you care about, but this seemed to cut me deep. Of course it immediately entered my brain that that was right when God was having me pray for them. I was humbled. I told her that I had been praying for them during that time. I hope she was encouraged by that. To know that God was working on it and doing something about it, even if she didn't know or couldn't see. To have that work of God be so blatant, so concrete, so real. People think that faith is all about something intangible, abstract, in the heart and mind. There are wonderful times when God shows himself nearly in the flesh. When he does something so perfect that hits you in the face. You can't help but feel the blow physically. Joy.
